We always encourage supporting local businesses: here you can find a list of yarn shops near UBC, as well as some specialty stores for the different disciplines of crafting.  We have also included bigger chains, where you will often find a wide selection of crafting materials not limited to knitting, crochet, or sewing.

well stocked mid-priced yarn store that sells a huge range of yarn from major and indie brands.  The staff are helpful and knowledgable, and they also carry a fantastic range of notions for all wallet sizes

arts and crafts store that sells all kinds of materials, including a good selection of metal and bamboo needles and hooks, and a huge variety of embroidery floss, hoops, and other haberdashery

Three Bags Full

small yarn store offering higher quality fiber yarns in Little Mountain, for our members who live closer to Burnaby or Kerrisdale.  While they are a smaller shop, their devotion to yarn shows, and they also offer classes

Urban Yarns

yarn store with two locations in Point Grey and north Van.  Along with a solid selection of yarn and notions, they also offer classes and workshops over the course of the year

Walmart offers a selection of knitting and crochet supplies, as well as yarn, for fairly low prices.

small yarn store in Kitsilano with a nicely curated selection of yarn and needles, as well as a lovely and kind staff who can help you sort out any pattern related problems

Atex Fabrics

A mid-priced designer fabric store downtown, that offers a solid selection.  They are also located near Dressew, so always be sure to check both before making a purchase

The Cloth Shop

quilter's paradise.  Located on Granville Island, this teeny-tiny store punches way above it's weight in terms of selection.  If you need to colour coordinate fabric for smaller projects, look no further.  They also offer a selction of pre-cut fat quarters, as well as colour coordinated stacks

Dressew Supply

discount fabric store with a massive selection of fabrics, as well as discontinued yarn and needles.  They offer a wide selection of haberdashery and notions, and enough discount sequins, rhinestones, et cetera to make a high school fashion designer's heart stop

Richmond and Coquitlam based fabric store that also sells some yarn.  For those who prefer online shopping, they have a very good website, as well as a good selection of patterns

fabric store in East Van that also offers a wide range of classes.  They carry more independent fabric producers, and so are a bit more in the pricier range
